Every TV pundit and high-paid consultant has been predicting that Donald Trump will and must become more presidential to win the general election. What does “presidential” mean, anyway?
Conservatives have fallen for a leftist media narrative that a Republican must act handle their opponents on the left and in the media kindly even when they lie about them and attack them.
President Bush, at the direction of Karl Rove, acted presidential. They called it “staying above the fray” and “respecting the office of the president.” All that meant was that Bush would not push back against any attacks from the left.
The media loved Bush’s “presidential” attitude. They could say or print anything they pleased about the president, and he would not respond or correct the record.
